After the announcement of the worlds first hybrid sports esports league, the eSQUASH League we’re happy to announce our first tournament taking place at MSquash accelerator in New York on March 28th.
The one day tournament will feature the very first official competition between 24-36 players for a prize money of 1000 US Dollars which are carried out on the three interactiveSQUASH systems available at the renowned trading facility. Players can register on the eSQUASH website starting March 1st to compete in a new mixed gender and mixed reality squash competition.
The tournament will feature a set of short qualifying rounds and a best of three format based on points both on squash rules and interactive gameplay on the touch enabled front wall.
League founder Markos Aristides Kern: “The new match format will be based on all the learning we collected in our more than 50.000 hours of play time on our systems and will combine squash skills with a cognitive level, making the game even more demanding for body and mind.
The main logic will be based on squash just like our most successful games like Tic-Tac-Squash, Darts or Area chase do, but there will be a strong focus on a time based approach and a few special surprises we will release a few weeks prior the event so athletes can train the new skills required in the matches.“
Dennis Fischer, Marketing Manager at FunWithBalls: “MSquash is the perfect stage for the first event of the global eSQUASH League, they were one of the first centers upgrading and by now have half of their courts connected already, making them the most advanced squash training center in the world. The matches will also be streamed live on social media and we can’t wait to see how the new competition format will be received by athletes and the audience.
With a clear focus on innovation and a dynamic approach to developing the new format, the eSQUASH League is planned to have an initial 8 events in 2020 which also act as testing grounds how this completely new approach to sports “mixed with gaming on a pro level” will be shaped by FUN WITH BALLS. The startup which initiated the league based on their product interactiveSQUASH have already revolutionized parts of the classic sport. Given the big media attention that their announcement generated, it will be very interesting to see the league develop.
Head Coach Katline Cauwels: “Choosing for interactiveSQUASH in our training concept was a no-brainer from the very first moment we played on an interactiveSQUASH court. Taking it now one level further to a true worldwide eSQUASH league will show everyone that this technology doesn’t just provide a fun squash experience, but can challenge and excite the best players in the world! We are ready to test all players’ skill levels on our courts. The world of E-gaming is about to hit reach the next level!”
Katline Cauwels is not just co-founder and head coach at MSquash, but also one of the first women on the PSA Pro Tour, combining 2 Master Degrees with getting to #42 in the world. She is a 3x Belgian National Women’s Champion and represented her country over 40 times.
Located in Port Chester, right in between New York City and Greenwich, MSquash Accelerator is one of the world’s leading squash training institutions. Established in 1992 as Shaun Moxham’s Academy, MSQUASH Accelerator today is a 10,000 square feet High-Tech squash academy and continues to evolve and expand as the industry leader for squash performance development.
